To strengthen our identity as a smoke free University, authorised officers will soon will soon start issuing fines to students, staff and visitors who smoke on campus.
Under section 15A of the University Grounds Statute 2009, individuals caught smoking outside of the designated smoking areas could be fined up to $151. This is in response to the increasing disregard to the smoke-free policy, putting the health of the University community at risk.
Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas. For students, compliance with the policy is a condition of enrolment.
The final phase of becoming completely smoke free will be the removal of the designated smoking areas. This will be will be communicated to you as it occurs in the next months.
