The national Young Carer Bursary Programme is administered by Carers Australia in Canberra.
The aim of the Programme is to help relieve the financial pressure on young carers to undertake part-time employment, in addition to managing their educational and caring responsibilities. The bursary increases the opportunity for young carers to remain in, or return to, education or training leading to improved employment opportunities and long-term finances.
Feedback from past bursary recipients shows that providing even this relatively small amount of money benefits the young carers and their families and reduces stress and young carers are able to focus more on their studies.
Each bursary recipient is awarded $3,000 over a one year period. This money is paid in instalments of $750, made in February, April, August and October.
Applications will open on Thursday 27 July and close Thursday 7 September. Applications can be completed via an online application form on the Young Carer Bursary website.
