Help to create a major artwork installation at the NGV!

As the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) Learning Partner, we’re calling for student volunteers to help create a major artwork installation and gain amazing industry experience!

Don’t miss out on being able to assist with the creation of an installation by renowned Taiwanese artist, Michael Lin, opening Friday 18 August.

Lin is renowned for his use of large floral motifs that fill architectural environments and reference Taiwanese textiles. The installation at the NGV is a floor based painting work that will be in Federation Court at NGV International, and will coincide with the House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture exhibition. Volunteers will be required to paint plywood panels in standard household paint, in line with a detailed template provided. Guidance will also be provided from Michael Lin’s assistant and NGV staff who will be present throughout the volunteers’ shifts.

Volunteers will need to be available for a minimum of three days, between Monday 24 July and Saturday 5 August (or if possible, earlier as work will begin on Monday 17 July). Shifts will run from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with a one- hour break.

If you’re interested in participating in this unique volunteer opportunity, please submit the following information via email:

  • your full name
  • contact email and phone number
  • the days you’re available to volunteer

We can only accept applications from students aged 18 years and over. If selected, you’ll need to supply a scanned copy of your passport, birth certificate or relevant visa as proof of eligibility to volunteer in Australia, as well as a completed NGV Registration Form and a signed Deed of Confidentiality.

Volunteers won’t able to take photographs of the artwork during the fabrication process. Official NGV photographs will released however, and will be made available in the coming weeks.
