Global Innovation Program and Study Tour – Bosnia and Herzegovina

The School of Engineering and Mathematical Science and La Trobe Learning and Teaching have a unique opportunity for 30 students! Apply today for your chance to take part in the interdisciplinary project-based elective subject (15 credit points) open to ALL third year undergraduate students (outstanding second year students may also apply).

Who and What?
This subject – led by Eddie Custovic (Director of the La Trobe Innovation and Entrepreneurship Foundry) and Dr Damir Mitric (Senior Lecturer, La Trobe Learning and Teaching) provides you with an exclusive opportunity to experience firsthand the power of innovation and entrepreneurship. We’re looking for participants keen to promote their ideas and take risks in a supportive environment. The subject simulates the realities of modern working life and give you transferable skills. This experience will help you develop and pitch your own professional identity (brand) to future employers.

Pre-Travel Innovation Training and Development
The design stage of the subject (completed on campus) will start 28 August, and conclude Friday 17 November 2017. Teams will engage in a blend of weekly online and face-to-face activities to prepare for a one day Industry Workshop.

Travel
You will then travel to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to attend the IEEE Student and Young Professional Congress (Friday 1 – Monday 4 December). You’ll participate in the IEEE/YEP Innovation Challenge and compete with dozens of other student groups from Bosnia and Herzegovina to secure investor funding for your great idea.  After the Innovation Congress, you’ll shadow and engage with industry professionals in their field (Thursday 7 – Thursday 14 December). This will provide you with valuable work-experience in an international setting.

Places are limited. An information session providing further background information, including scholarships, travel arrangements and course requirements will be held on Wednesday 9 August – 5:30pm until 6:30pm at the Szental Lecture Theatre, La Trobe University, Bundoora Campus.
