Bundoora library works update: an exciting new space

Soon you will see the start of the next stage of refurbishment works happening at the Borchardt Library building at the Melbourne Campus. But don’t worry, ALL library services will continue to operate throughout this time.

You’ll still have access to:

  • ASK La Trobe Help Zone
  • Library collections, services and support
  • IT support
  • Study areas and printing facilities
  • Writer’s Block café

Please note that there will be some temporary changes to the way you’ll access the library. Detailed dates and changes listed below:

Date: Changes to note:
Friday 15 September Temporary closure of main entrance

  • The main entrance will be temporarily closed from 5pm to midnight whilst the doors are being removed
  • During this time the side entrance closest to the Donald Whitehead building will be the main Library entry point for duration of these works
Saturday 16 September Temporary re-opening of main entrance

  • The existing main entrance from the Agora will re-open again at 9.30am
Saturday 23 September Permanent closure of main entrance

  • The existing main entrance will be permanently closed and sealed off
  • Side entrance closest to the Donald Whitehead building will again be the main Library entry point for the day
Sunday 24 September  Transition to new entrance (new auto door in new location and ready to use)

  • The brand new front entrance will open at 9:30am

Both stages will remain behind hoardings until the celebration event at the projects completion.

Once the new entrance is complete, the next stage of works will begin from Monday 25 September. This will include:

  • New internal hoardings will be placed for the commencement of Stage 2 works to the new Social Space (adjacent to Writers Block Café) and Self Help Area
  • The Self Help Area will be closed off and a temporary Self Help Area will be set up in the adjacent area
  • Façade works, new flooring, wall treatments, installation of video wall, ceiling and joinery

This upgrade will greatly improve the La Trobe experience for students, staff and the community and is planned to be completed by the end of October 2017.
