Transgender Awareness Week runs from 12 to 19 November and concludes with the Transgender Day of Remembrance on Tuesday 20 November. On this day, we commemorate all the transgender people lost to violence.
On behalf of all members of the La Trobe University community, I pay our respects for the lives lost. We acknowledge the significance of Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance and reflect on what we can do to further support our transgender and gender diverse community at La Trobe University in the years ahead.
La Trobe University has a vibrant lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer community and an ALLY network of staff and students who have been trained in LGBTIQA+ awareness. We support transgender, non-binary and gender diverse staff and students through our dedicated queer counsellors, queer social support groups at Melbourne (Queer Chat and LTSU Queer Collective) and Bendigo (Rainbow Eagles), and many other services and support services for our LGBTIQA+ community.
Next month, La Trobe will launch a range of guide and tools in support of our transgender, non-binary and gender diverse staff and students, including fact sheets on gender diversity, collecting gender inclusive data and the use of gender inclusive language, and a new gender transition guide. This information will be available online from 1 December.
