Calculating your Weighted Average Mark (WAM)

La Trobe uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) calculation instead of a Grade Point Average (GPA).

A WAM is an average mark that takes into account the credit point value of the subjects that you have completed. It is based on the actual mark of all subjects completed in your course at any given time.

To calculate your WAM:

Sum of (final marks x subject credit points) / sum of total credit points studied

Example:

Final mark Credit points Final mark x subject credit points
83 15 83 x 15 = 1245
69 15 69 x 15 = 1035
75 30 75 x 30 = 2250
95 15 95 x 15 = 1425
74 15 74 x 15 = 1110
67 30 67 x 30 = 2010
120 9075
  1. Sum of (final marks x subject credit points) = 9075
  2. Sum of total credit points studied = 120
  3. WAM calculation = 9075/120
  4. WAM = 75.625 therefore 75.63
